Dog Sport Scotland -
November update
What has happened
so far?
Since this initiative was
launched in July, over 400 miles run
on the trails.
In October the Scottish Siberian Husky
Club (SSHC) held the first event of
their 2004/05 series at the Ae Forest
trails. This event benefitted from
the DSS (Dog Sport Scotland) marketing
plan which allowed the SSHC event
organisers to turn up with their start
list - as the trail was already prepared
and marked out, with even some prizes
provided.
We are pleased to announced that Scottish
Power are also on board as major project
sponsor, this is marvelous news and
will provide us with many benefits.
In addition to the above we are also
really excited to announce the appointment
of Catalyst marketing as the main
Project and events marketing consultants.
Their consultants Lynda and Lorna
will be responsible for design and
production of all marketing materials
and press releases etc., as well as
website development for events.
Whats happened with the trails
?
Currently Phase 1 of the
trail improvements have now been completed.
The result of this is that the Ae
Forest trails now offer 5 trials of
the following convenient distances
2.1, 3.4, 3.9, 4.4 and 4.9 mile trails
all of which are in a single loop
from the start/finish area, which
will allow for events where each class
can secure a different trail (obviously
loads more mileage available if you
want to combine the trail loops etc).
All these trails consist of grass
and/or sand - totally foot friendly
and superior to your average trail.
Moving forward with Phase 2
will see the 'finishing off' the trails
and adding on a 7 mile loop, for those
looking for a bit more distance without
repeating a loop.
DSS (Dog Sport Scotland) actually
hold the lease to the trails- This
is an important milestone for this
venture and a first ever for our sport.
Where is the equipment
?
The Mushers Hut will
be up and running by late January
- we had hoped to have this structure
up and running for the SDAS (Sled
Dog Association of Scotland) Ae race
on the second weekend in December
but due to European funding restrictions
we cannot spend funds until January
2005.
This likewise also applies to other
planned equipment purchases etc.
Looking to the
future.
Soon to be available - Dog Sport Scotland
Sweatshirts and other apparell for
sale - watch this site for further
details
Partners will soon have details of
all events on their website, to provide
us with additional visibility in areas
not normally akin to sleddog events.
Buccleuch Estates Race - This
events will be combined with Cross
Country Mountain Bike Race and Craft
Fair, amongst other attractions.
Exclusive competitor parking will
be available next to Castle.
His Grace the Duke of Buccleuch will
be personally attending the awards
ceremony to present the prizes.
A marquee will be erected within Castle
Courtyard - We will use this for the
Mushers meeting on the Friday night,
partying in it on Saturday night and
holding the prize giving for race
and SDAS championship on the Sunday.
We are planning on having discos and
bands in it and will be looking for
kilts etc on the Sunday.
The trails are superb at this location
and there will be a Press Day prior
to the event which will also provide
competitors the hance to check out
the trails.
Lots of good prizes for all competitors
for the event.
Free Food - can't say fairer than
that !!
We will be looking for as many competitors
as possible to ensure our sport becomes
the highlight of the event and creates
a favourable impression with the many
press agancies which will be present.
